Roll-Off Dumpster Rental across Bakersfield and Kern County

A roll-off dumpster is a steel container hauled in and set down by a specialized truck, left with you for the length of the rental, then hauled back out full. It's the most flexible way to handle a large volume of debris because it sits on your schedule instead of a crew's calendar — you load it over a weekend or over the standard seven-day rental, and it doesn't move until you call for pickup.

We run the full range out of our own Hayden Ct yard, not far from the Kern River — much of its bed runs dry through the city, its water diverted upstream for the agriculture that helps make Kern County one of California's leading farming counties — and within sight of where the southern Sierra Nevada, the Tehachapi Mountains and the Temblor Range converge at the south end of the San Joaquin Valley. See our Kern River property cleanup guide for more on how riverside and older-neighborhood properties tend to generate this kind of job, and plainly, hauling material out is the same kind of work this service does today, across every corner of Kern County.

Who a roll-off container works for

Anyone generating more debris than a truck bed or a handful of curb trips can handle — homeowners clearing a garage, contractors running a jobsite, businesses renovating a space. Roll-off service underlies every one of our other listed services, from residential and construction to yard waste.

If your project doesn't fit neatly into one of those categories, that's fine — a roll-off is a general-purpose container first, and we size and price it around whatever you're actually clearing. See our sizing guide if you want a starting point before you call.

How delivery, rental and pickup work

A specialized truck backs the container off a flatbed, sets it on boards if it's going on a driveway, and leaves it level and square. Our Lead Driver, Tyler Bowman, walks that placement personally on most days — checking for overhead lines, soft ground and clearance before the box ever touches down. The standard rental period is seven days and it's extendable — there's no rush that forces a project along faster than it needs to go. One call schedules pickup when you're done.

Pricing is flat and quoted up front, covering delivery, the rental window, pickup and disposal — see our cost factors guide for what typically moves that number. A container set entirely on your own property generally doesn't need a permit; placement on a public street or sidewalk is different, and a temporary City of Bakersfield Public Works permit may apply — see our Bakersfield permit guide. If digging is part of the job, call USA North 811 first — see our USA North 811 guide.

What can and can't go in the container

Wood, drywall, tile and flooring; furniture; yard waste, branches and clippings; roofing shingles; and small household appliances all load in without issue. A short list can never go in a roll-off at all — paint, solvents and oils, tires, batteries, hazardous or toxic chemicals, propane tanks and gas cylinders, and medical or biohazard waste. Most standard loads route to Bena Landfill, Kern County Public Works' site on Neumarkel Road, which does not accept hazardous material either — one more reason that short list has to stay out.

Keep the load level with the top rail rather than mounded above it — an overfilled container legally can't be hauled on the road. And heavy material like concrete, dirt, brick or tile belongs in a purpose-sized 10 or 15 yard container rather than a larger general-debris box, since weight — not volume — is what fills those loads fast. Flag anything on the banned list when you call and we'll point you to the right disposal option instead.

Which size suits the job

Not sure where to start? A 10 yard handles a single room or a load of concrete; a 15 yard suits a garage or medium remodel; a 20 yard covers most whole-house projects; a 30 yard handles full renovations and new construction; and a 40 yard is built for large commercial and industrial volume. See the complete size guide, browse real project size examples, or call and describe the job.

Roll-Off Dumpster Rental — your questions

What is the difference between a roll-off dumpster and other container types?

A roll-off is hauled and set by a specialized truck that tilts the container off the back and slides it into place on rails, which is why it can sit on a driveway, curb or jobsite without a crane or separate lift equipment. That's the standard container type for every service we offer.

How long can I keep a roll-off dumpster?

The standard rental period is seven days, and it's extendable if your project runs long. Pickup is one phone call whenever you're ready.

Do I need a permit to put a dumpster in the street instead of on my property?

In most cases yes — a temporary permit from the City of Bakersfield Public Works may be required for public street or sidewalk placement, while placement entirely on private property usually doesn't need one. Tell us where the container is going when you call.

What is included in the flat price?

Delivery, the seven-day rental period, pickup and disposal, quoted as one number with no hidden fees — the price we quote on the phone is the price on the invoice.

Do I need to call USA North 811 before a roll-off is delivered?

Only if digging is part of the job — a driveway or curb drop with no excavation doesn't require it. If a foundation, utility line or grading work is involved, call USA North 811 (dial 811, 800-642-2444, or usanorth811.org) at least two working days ahead of time.

What materials are not allowed in the container, and what if I overfill it?

Paint, solvents and oils, tires, batteries, hazardous or toxic chemicals, propane tanks and gas cylinders, and medical or biohazard waste should never go in a roll-off. And any load has to stay level with the top rail — a container filled above the rim legally can't be hauled on the road, so we'll ask that it come back down before pickup.
